18/11/2014  Oriel has been acquired by BigAir!

Oriel Technologies today announced that it has been acquired by BigAir Group Ltd (ASX: BGL), the owner and operator of Australia’s largest metropolitan fixed wireless broadband network.  Oriel will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary within the BigAir Group.

Oriel’s successful business model transformation from reseller to managed services provider and and significant customer base made it an excellent strategic choice according to BigAir CEO, Jason Ashton.  “Oriel was founded in 1995 and over 19 years has built a reputation within the industry as an innovative IT services provider focused on providing quality solutions and excellent customer service.  Over the last 5 years, Oriel has made a significant investment in infrastructure and people to provide a comprehensive catalogue of managed services to its customers”.

Oriel has become a significant player in the medium enterprise market in recent years.  Its well-established managed services portfolio consists of networking, systems, communications, support, infrastructure as a service, desktop as a service, as well as private, hybrid, and public cloud.

In acquiring Oriel, BigAir has the opportunity to broaden its product and customer portfolio by expanding its offerings to include managed and hosted IT services.  Ashton says, “Oriel’s breadth of technical capability and mature managed service products will create a perfect platform for BigAir’s planned growth in the managed IT services area.  We believe Oriel will provide significant cross-selling opportunities into our current account base”.

“The acquisition of an organisation of Oriel’s size and experience gives BigAir a great jumpstart into this fast expanding division”, Ashton added.

Managing Director and Founder of Oriel, Jake Wynne, said of the acquisition: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Oriel to accelerate its plans to expand its managed services reach.  Culturally, BigAir is a good fit for us and we look forward to working with the team to enable us to continue to provide the innovation and service levels our customers demand”.

According to Wynne, “The deal will allow Oriel to retain its ability to service its clients and we can assure everyone there will be no disruption to current service offerings”.  He added, “It will be business as usual here at Oriel, as we look forward to continuing to provide our customers with the highest levels of commitment and reliability with the added benefit of financial security afforded by our new parent”.
